When I finished the marathon in 2009, it was not until Wednesday until I could eat again properly and get over having severe stomach cramps, pain and bathroom issues! Not to mention my incredibly sore muscles. I ran that 26.2 miles and the first experience of self abuse my body has ever experienced in this absolute pounding and introduction into the world of marathon running
2010 I was obliviously a stronger person and had experience in knowing how to deal with after race recovery. When I finished this race I slipped off my shorts and stepped into my Skins, I soon drank a premade smoothie and chomped on my mars bar from my goodie bag. When I got home, I ate a bowl of soup. I was tired but walking around fine in myself, which only meant all I had to work on soothing my muscles. I massage would have been the answer but I was going down the route of just hobbling around and taking painkillers. I tried a foam roller but even laying on the “foam” made equipment was damn painful enough and painful enough for me to say forget this.
I was still buzzing from the marathon and two weeks later, I was itching to go back running again! This was going to be a huge mistake in my running schedule! After all, I had sat up all night and trying to enter the 2011 race and thinking, I would be accepted I thought about starting my training early once again. Oh yes I found it hard but battled on through all the dull aches I was feeling. After all, in six weeks time I had the Bluewater 10k I want to be fighting fit for that, as it is one of my local races….
